The vacuum cleaner that takes care of the cleaning all by itself is here. The ultimate lifestyle accessory, the Trilobite is packed with sophisticated technology, including bat-like acoustic radar, and can vacuum the floor all on its own.

The Trilobite uses ultrasound to navigate through a room, just like a bat. First the vacuum sends out an ultrasound signal, that reflects off the walls and furniture. The sonar that emits the ultrasound vibrates at a rate of 60,000 Hz and is coated with a thin gold plate for best performance. Then, eight microphones inside the Trilobite receive and measure the returning signals. This gives the vacuum an accurate picture of the room, enabling it to avoid collisions with things placed on the floor for example the dogs water bowl. Special magnetic strips are placed in doorways, near stairs and other openings. These act as a wall, keeping the Trilobite in the room.

The Trilobite calculates the size of a room by following around the walls. It does this for a minimum of 90 seconds and up to 15 minutes. After it is finished mapping the room, it automatically starts cleaning.

The machine contains sophisticated electronics and four motors one for each driven wheel, one for the brush and one for the fan.
